The purpose of this study is to research the recognition of workers at child care centers about child care accreditation system and to identify the problems in adopting the accreditation system through searching the child care centers participating in the system in order to offer base data for the accreditation system so that it can get the stable foundation to broaden its application and achieve its ultimate aim. For this purpose this study chose workers at 25 national, public, corporational, and private child care centers located in the north of Gyeongbuk area as subjects and then examined and analyzed their recognition. The results of this are as followings.
First, it has been shown that those who recognize accreditation system does 'not need' are more than those who recognize 'need'. This result, showing low recognition about accreditation system, seems owing to the reason that they have not sufficient recognition about the system and have worry about heavy job from that.
Second, it has been shown that they have high tendency of approving seven indexes of accreditation selected as the categories but they show somewhat high negative opinion about both indexes of interaction and cooperation with family and local society. It implies that they feel burdens with applying them to the site owing to insufficient knowledge of theory about those areas.
Third, most of them recognize that they would get more routine job owing to the preparation of accreditation. It means that they worry to suffer from excess business with preparing accreditation adding to their ordinary job.
This study suggests the plan for improvement as followings on the base of the recognition of the workers at child care centers and problems about child care accreditation which were shown from the results.
First, it needs more effort to improve understanding of workers at child care centers about the need of accreditation when considering their low recognition about adopting accreditation system.
Second, it needs financial support by government on accredited facilities according to the result of accreditation.
Third, it needs effort to ensure more comprehensive child care services through accreditation system.
Fourth, it needs detailed site research and collecting opinion for the accreditation indexes to get improvement in various aspects and to have valid items in reality.
Fifth, it seems to need more efficient compensation system because it shows more stress with the excess burden of job owing to the preparation of accreditation.
Last, even though there are some conflicts with the workers at the sites in the initial stage of child care accreditation system while the child care policy is being placed as the area of national invest for the future, it seems natural for the parents who are at the position to commit their children to the care centers. While the government should also examine the policy to improve the treatment of workers at child care centers who are working in the poor condition with silence.
