This study compared the educational experiences and college adjustment of pre-major and major-based freshmen and examined factors influencing college adjustment. The survey measured self-directed learning competency, faculty-student interaction, peer relationships, supportive campus environment, career maturity, and college adjustment. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results are as follows: Pre-major freshmen reported significantly higher levels of faculty-student interaction, perceived supportive campus environment, and career maturity than major-based freshmen. The regression analysis revealed that peer relationships, self-directed learning competency, and a supportive campus environment significantly predicted college adjustment among pre-major freshmen. In contrast, faculty-student interaction, peer relationships, and career maturity were significant predictors of college adjustment among major-based freshmen. The findings suggest that differentiated support strategies are needed according to admission type. Colleges should strengthen self-directed learning and provide systematic academic and career support to enhance the educational effectiveness of the non-major admission system.
