침묵화된 성 = 지체장애여성의 성에 대한 인식과 경험

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 부산ㆍ경남지역에 거주하고 있는 지체장애여성을 대상으로 성에 대한 인식과 경험 등을 질적 연구방법으로 수집된 자료를 통해 분석하였다. 이 연구에 참여한 미혼 장애여성 23명 중에서 과반수에 달하는 11명의 여성은 성에 대한 부정적인 인식이나 보수성을 보였으며 5명은 성교육 부재에 의한 성적 무관심과 무지를 보여 주고 있어서 이들이 생활 속에서 직면하고 있는 성적 현실을 그대로 보여준다. 자유롭지 못한 신체에 대한 부담감 외에도 가족, 특히 어머니의 보수적인 성교육과 억압적인 태도는 장애여성에게 성에 대한 부정적인 인식을 부추긴다. 사회활동이 활발하거나 자연스러운 이성관계를 경험한 장애여성은 생활 속에서 성에 관한 많은 정보와 지식을 접하기도 하고 자유로운 성적 표현을 할 기회도 갖는다. 장애여성의 제한된 성경험은 이성과 친밀한 관계를 형성하는 기회의 부족에서 비롯된다. 이들은 자신의 불편한 신체조건과 부모의 과잉보호, 신체감각의 상실등에 의해 이성관계와 성행위의 기회를 박탈당하고 여성으로서 자신감을 상실하고 있다. 성에 관한 활발한 논의는 장애여성의 성에 관한 무관심이나 부정적인 인식을 바꾸는 좋은 계기가 될 것이다. 더불어 이성관계 증진을 위한 좀더 구체적인 성교육이 장애여성에게 주어진다면, 그리고 지역사회의 차원에서 장애인들의 만남을 촉진하는 다양한 행사가 열리게 된다면 이들에게 성은 생활의 일부분으로 자리잡게 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was designed to evaluate the sexual perceptions, feelings and experiences of women with physical disability in Busan and Kyungsangnamdo areas. Twenty three unmarried women with physical disability participated in this study, using in-depth interviews. The results demonstrated that women with physical disability indicated negative and conservative feelings to sex, and low levels of sexual experiences. This meant that sexuality was not an integral part of the lives of women with disability. It was clear that knowledge about sexuality was not provided, there was limited discussion about sexuality, negative perceptions and feelings established in relation to sexuality, and there were low levels of expression of sexuality among women with physical disability.
