The performance evaluation of computer systems and flexible manufacturing systems (FMS’s) has been addressed using closed queueing network (CQN) models. A generating function approach for analyzing CQN model is adopted, since computational algorithms for CQN's can be derived using this approach in a straight-forward manner. The solution of CQN’s with multiple job classes and state-independent/dependent stations will be demonstrated. Decomposition and aggregation in multiclass CQN's are also discussed using the generating function approach.
