The purpose of this study is to examine the effects on improvement of ego identity and self-Esteem of Juvenile who have the experience of sexual abuse and delinquent through the dance movement therapy. The subject people were 46 females of whom ages are between 13 and 19 and who are in custody of “ Shelter" which is the protection facility for the young people in Seoul, and the dance movement therapy was executed total1y for 40 hours.
There were 8 dancing therapists together with the entire group, and each the team was consisted of one dancing therapist, one assistant therapist, and 6 or 7 subject peoples, additional1y the researcher conducted the entire program
This research program courses is made up of total1y 9 steps.
1. Therapist - Interaction of subject people
2. Restoration stage of the natural ability of the body
3. Integrated stage of the phycho-physical (from dissociation to consolidation)
4. Stage where one faces the problem of Self (dancing creatively and improvisingly)
5. Stage in which the intemal emotion is expressed as the language, Voice, and movement
6. Stage in which the past shame is expressed as the representation of the movement
7. Stage in which one look, accept, and stand upon the problem
8. Stage in which one expresses the positive self-conception, hope, and dream with the dancing
9. Stage in which one describes the new future and sound relationship with the dancing
The total score of the ego identity before performing the program for the research subject people was 105.75, and it was changed up into 116.83 (t=-2.534, p<.01).
The result of t=test showed that there was conspicuous difference in the self-acceptance (t=-2.803, p<.05), and existence recognition(t=-2.360, p<.05). Additionally, there was the increase of the average score in the lower factors such as the stability, target intentional characteristics, role expectation, self-assertion, and interpersonal relationship. The change of the self-esteem also showed the meaningful increase from 23.08 to 28.00 (t=-2.534, p<.05).
In conclusion, the teen girls who have the experience of the sexual abuse and delinquent was able to restore the hopeful and positive feeling about their own bodies through the dance therapy courses. Additionally, it is thought that the dance therapy can help those Juvenile to practice the feeling and consideration, and then to obtain their own controlling power and powerful passion, and consequently to find their own sound way to lead their lives.
