This study aims to investigate the identity and self-consciousness of Confucian group of the Kiho Dao Learning lineage who achieved the prosperity of the Nosa School until the early 20th century amid the decline of Confucianism due to the ravage of Joseon by the imperialism of the 19th century with a focus on the school. For this purpose, the study arranged the political and social contexts and changes that had a decisive impact on the perceptions of "non-Joseon" and "non-Neo-Confucian" among Confucian scholars. They are summarized into the four following aspects: ① Confucian group of the Kiho Dao Learning lineage in the 19th century regarded Joseon as a civilized Confucian country and other countries as barbarian ones (Joseon is civilized / non-Joseon is barbarian); ② They defined Neo-Confucianism as the right study and other studies as cunning (Neo-Confucianism is right / non-Neo-Confucianism is cunning); ③ To them, inheriting the study in the line of Seoin-Noron meant "belonging to the privileged class in society who led public opinions";and ④ the appearance of rich farmers that emerged in the second half of Joseon created an opportunity to accelerate "academic concentration" through the pursuit of study and Yugye and reinforce the identity and self-consciousness of Confucian scholars. These explanations help to realize that the Confucian group of the Kiho Dao Learning lineage in the 19th century tried to secure their collective identity as the "guardians of a civilized Confucian country" and their self-consciousness as the "privileged class in society to lead public opinions" in the line of Seoin-Noron based on their common consciousness of protecting Neo-Confucianism and rejecting the other thoughts and religions. What comes out naturally from the explanations is that the Confucian group of the Kiho Dao Learning lineage in the 19th century tried to rebuild the social order around the feudal system by reestablishing the study of Zhu Xi. It was at an antipodal point to the "Non-Joseon," "Non-Confucian" and "anti-feudal" force.
