청소년자원봉사활동이 주관적 행복감에 미치는 영향 = The Effects of Youth Voluntary Service on Subjective Happiness

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the practice of youth voluntary service, the effects of voluntary service on subjective happiness, and suggests strategies to activate youth voluntary services. The survey for 2009 Youth Activity of Kores Youth Service Center was reanalyzed. Among 2827 middle and high school students across Korea, 61% have participated in a voluntary service during the last year. Among them, students who participated ``by themselves`` are more satisfied with voluntary service than those who participated by ``teachers`` ``guide`` or ``by group``. The reasons of dissatisfaction are ``dull`` and ``not worthwhile``. Higher subjective happiness is answered among the participants, especially ``by themselves`` participants and satisfied participants. These findings are also supported by multiple regression analysis. Youth voluntary service participation has positive effects on happiness in present life. Voluntary service satisfaction has positive effects on both measures of happiness: happiness in present life and life satisfaction. Suggested strategies to vitalize youth voluntary services are to expand the opportunities for voluntary services, make students have fun in the service, balance the supply and demand for the service, utilize pre-education sessions, implement fair record keeping, and adjust compulsory service hours.
