The purpose of this study was to explore the problems in the psychological basis of adult education.
To achieve the purpose, the research questions addressed in the study are:
1. How can we understand "developmental tasks" of adult learners in educational settings?
2. What kind of learning motivations should be considered in adult education?
3. In relation to the adult education, how do we evaluate the decrease of educabilities after the periods of adolescence?
4. In the adult education, how can we differentiate the strategies of andragogy from those of pedagogy?
The conclusions of the study are as follows :
1. Adults have the developmental tasks to solve their problems in their situations.
2. The prime motivation to participate in adult education is to actualize their self-identities.
3. The intellectual abilities to learn in adulthood are not lowered comparing to the young.
4. Adults learn in the problem situations while the young learn in the textbooks.
