The primary objective of this study is to improve understanding of the mechanism causing scour around the pipeline placed on the shallow water zone. The pipelines in submarines are usually exposed to currents such as a offshore currents, tidal currents with long waves, then Changes of the flow patterns occur and lead to scour hole around the pipeline. Investigating the lateral limits of local scour is very important in engineering design and construction in order to prevent the proper scour. Experiments were performed with the variations of pipe diameters(D), current velocity(V). Using the experimental results, the correlations of scour width and parameters such as Reynolds number(Re), Shields number(θ), Froude number(Fr) were analyzed. As a result, Fr number is the main parameter to cause the local scour around the submarine pipelines in steady current flow filed.
