인식적 내·외재론 논쟁과 규범성의 문제 : 골드만(Alvin I. Goldman)을 중심으로 = Debate of epistemic internalism/externalism and Problem of normativity

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문이 목적은 인식적 비난과 관련하여 인식적 내·외재론이 서로 견해를 달리하고 있지 않음에도 불구하고, 내재론에서는 적용되는 반면 외재론에서 그렇지 않은것이 결국 규범성과 관련이 있음을 보이고자 한다. 외재론은 일반적으로 인식적 판단에서 규범성을 배제한다는 점에서 내재론과 구분된다. 인식적 평가는 평가의 대상이 되는 믿음이 인식론적으로 합리적인가 혹은 비합리적인가와 관련된다. 그런데 실제로 믿음에 대해 그 어떠한 접근도 허용하지 않는 신빙성 여부를 가지고서 그 믿음이 합리적인지 비합리적인지를 가릴 수는 없다. 이러한 외재론의 기본적인 입장을 추종하는 골드만의 신빙론에서 한 믿음의 정당성 여부를 결정하는 것은 '사실'이다. 문제는 사실과의 연관성이 인식 정당화를 위한 인식적 규범성의 조건으로 제시될 수 없다는 점이다. 비합리적이라는 이유로 비난하는 것은 규범적인 판단에 해당하며 사실적인 기술과는 구분된다. 내재론의 관점에서는 어떤 인식 주체를 비합리적이라고 비난할 여지는 분명히 있다. 그러나 규범성과 관련하여 골드만의 경우 그가 설정하고 있는 '인식적 개념기 분석은 문제를 안고 있는 것으로 보인다. 인식적 개념에 대한 그의 외재론적 분석은 인식적 비난의 본성에 관련하여 분명히 오류를 내포하고 있기 때문이다. 인식적으로 비합리적이라는 비판은 '인식적 평가'와 관련되기 때문에 사실과 관련해서는 결코 적용될 수 없음에도 불구하고 골드만은 그와 반대로 생각하고 있다. 골드만이 후기에 제시하고 있는 인식 정당화에 관한 테제에서도 일종에 '규칙'과 같은 개념을 끌어들이고 있는데,그의 규칙 개념이 인식적 규범성에는 여전히 미치지 못하는 것으로 보인다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this thesis, even though epistemic internalism and externalismdo not differ from their opinion each other about a epistemic blame, does it show to be related normativity ultimately as what is applied to intemalism but is not at externalism.
One of the more nebulous criteria for distinguishing intemalist and externalist analyses involves the suggestion that externalists ignore the normativity of epistemic judgement. And, certainty, like many of the objections levelled at Alvin I. Goldman's realism, for example, makes the claim that unreliability to which one has no actual or potential access cannot decide questions about the rationality or irrationality of beliefs because charges of irrationality are relevant to evaluations of epistemic praise and blame. If my beliefs is produced by unreliable processes when there is in no possible way for me to find the fact out, in what sense am I to be blamed for having the belief? The inhabitants of demon worlds are no more blameworthy for their demon induced false beliefs than are the inhabitants of demon no non-demon worlds.
Surely both internalists and externalism will agree that in some sense, charges of irrationality can be construed as criticism. But it is important to distinguish this virtual truism, a truism that is not going to differentiate the two views, from so-called deontic analyses of epistemic terms, where a deontic analyses of epistemic analyzes into the epistemic concepts using value terms. The deontic analyses of epistemic terms may well be incompatible with at least paradigm out of externalist views, but as an internalist, I certainly do not want to be struck with defending the deontic analyses of episternic concerts.
I do not think it is useful to try to understand the intemalism. externalism debate as one over the nonnativity of epistemic judgements. In fact, I would argue that pure denotic analyses of epistemic terns involve a mistake very much like the mistake of externalism.
