베르크손에서 지성과 직관 -이분법을 넘어서- = Intelligence and Intuition in Bergson -Beyond the Dichotomy-

국문 초록 (Abstract)

일반적으로 베르크손에서 지성과 직관의 차이는 실용적 관점과 순수 관조의 차이로 이해된다. 이런 이분법의 관점에서는 그 두 인식의 차이는 뚜렷하게 비교되나 그것들의 상호 관계는 해명되기 어렵다. 이는 지성과 직관에 대한 충분한 이해가 되지 못할 뿐만 아니라, 베르크손에서 철학과 과학, 삶과 철학 사이의 갈등을 극단화하는 해석의 문제를 일으킬 수 있다. 지성은 실용적이기에 철학적 진리에서 배제되고 직관은 유용함과 거리가 멀기에 삶과 무관한 것처럼 보이게 되는 것이다. 따라서 지성과 직관의 관계에 대한 베르크손의 생각에 주목함으로써 이분법을 보완해야 한다. 그에 따르면, 과학은 물질에 대한 형이상학적 인식으로 인정되며, 직관은 단지 보는 것이 아닌 작용하는 것으로서 삶에 기여한다, 결국 직관의 철학은 지성의 거부와는 무관한 것으로, 지성주의라는 습관에서 벗어나 지성을 사용하는 새로운 습관 형성의 문제이다. 이렇게 보면, 이분법적 관점에서 강조되는 개념에 대한 이미지의 우선성을 다르게 볼 여지도 있다. 이미지보다 지성의 개념이 중요하며, 직관의 철학은 다수의 지성들이 서로 겹쳐지는 지적 협력의 지속으로 이해 될 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Generally, the intelligence and the intuition in Bergson tend to be interpreted with a dichotomous framework; the former is a practical perspective, while the latter is a pure contemplation. This approach, despite its advantages to explain their opposition, can make obscure their rapport. But if the intuition is without any connection with rationality, the science should be excluded from the philosophical thought, and the philosophy of intuition can be reduced to a mere irrationalism. Besides, in this condition, it becomes difficult to recognize the benefit of philosophy, since the intuition is simply characterized by a disinterested knowledge in its opposition to practical intelligence. Therefore, as a complementary perspective, it is necessary to examine the relationship between intuition and intelligence. In fact, Bergson's philosophy assigns a metaphysical status to the science, and his concept of intuition is not simply a pure speculation but also an acting thing; the intelligence actually engages in philosophical thinking, and the intuition has an impact on our daily lives. Thus, Bergson’s philosophy of intuition has nothing to do with a refusal of intellectuality; its goal is just to get a new habit of using the intelligence without intellectualism. From this approach, the possibility of rethinking the priority of image over concept is open to us; concept is more important than image, and the philosophy of intuition can be understood as a progressive intellectual cooperation, that is, a continuous process of superposition of multiple intelligences.
