In our somewhat complusive society, play is often not respected because it doesnot seem directly productive. Yet the creative achievements of scientificthought involve sustained attention, imagination, and innovative ways of perceiving and dealing with reality. Play is essentially creative involving the child as a person with all his capacities. Children play for pleasure, butplay is not recreation for them as it is for adults.
