Korean new-school drama was introduced from Japan when there was the Japanese annexation of Korea. At that time it was a new form of drama which gave off some dark japanese colors.
Since then, as though there have been relatively active studies of the new-school drama of Korea, we may think it still has two kinds of problem.
One is that the analysis of the domestic text of 1910's and the works whose adaptation is obviously from Japanese works, must be conducted in comparison with Japanese works.
Another is a character definition of the new-school drama of Korea based on a concrete text-analysis.
To work out this kinds of problem at least, first of all, I tried to conduct ,the first problem, the relative analysis of the new-school dramas of Korea and Japan in this thesis.
In this thesis as a subject of this study, I chose a home tragedy which was performed in Korea in 1910's.
At that time the home tragedy was the most popular with the general public, which was because the works whose adaptation was from Japanese home novels are centralized in the obvious works.
As objects of the analysis, I chose 「Jaebongchun(재봉춘)」 and 「Ssangokroo(쌍옥루) 」whose adaptations are obviously from Japan and I compared the respective one with Japanese works 「Soohuren(想夫憐)」and 「Onogazeumi(己が罪)」.
In chapter Ⅱ before analyzing the works in earnest, I treated the aspect of the development of the two countries' home tragedy in order to deeply understand reasons of the birth of the home tragedy and those days's social backgrounds behind it.
In chapter Ⅱ-1, as dividing the subject into (1)the origin of a new-school drama and one before home tragedy, (2)the beginning of home tragedy and the concept of it, (3)its limit and historical importance, I comprehensively will give consideration to Japanese home tragedy based on its home novel.
In chapter Ⅱ-2, after showing four works which belong to the home tragedy in Japan as examples and arranging the contents and the style of subject, I abstracted Japanese home tragedy's character from what I got above.
In chapter Ⅱ-3, I summed up the acceptance of Japanese home tragedy in Korea and its importance.
In chapter 3, Based on the examination above I entered the analysis of the work.
First, as comparing the setting-up of the character and the plot in 「Jaebongchun」 and 「Ssangokroo」 with Japanese works, I examined the influential relation with its original.
As a result of it, it is clear that Korean home tragedy was not only adapted from Japanese home tragedy but also inherited the popularity and had an impact on popularization of the latter works.
Because of this popularity, so far the estimation of value of a new-school drama itself has been neglected in the existing argument.
But the fact that a role as a bridge forming a new drama, a realistic and modern drama of the next times, was worthy, has been emphasized.
This thesis asserts that the manner of study which has been continued so far must be reconsidered.
