성결은 퀴어인가? : 미국 나사렛교회의 성소수자(LGBTQ+) 논쟁에 대한 신학적 응답 = Is Holiness Queer? : A Theological Response to the Controversy over LGBTQ+ Issues within the Church of the Nazarene in the United States

국문 초록 (Abstract)

미국의 많은 교단들은 동성 결혼과 성소수자(LGBTQ+)의 성직 안수를 인정 하고 있으며, 이러한 흐름은 계속될 것으로 보인다. 미국 나사렛교회는 이 문제 에 대해 전통적인 입장을 고수하는 대표적인 교단이다. 그러나 최근 미국 나사 렛교회는 나사렛 출신 퀴어 신학자들의 집단적 도전에 직면하고 있다. 본 연구 는 미국 나사렛교회의 성소수자 논쟁을 비판적으로 탐구하여, 향후 이 문제를 심각하게 다루어야 할 한국교회에 참고할 수 있는 사례 연구를 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 먼저 본 연구는 성소수자에 대한 나사렛교회의 공식 입장을 분석한다. 둘째, 공식 입장에 반하는 나사렛 퀴어 신학자들의 세 가지 핵심 주장을 검토하고, 각각에 대해 나사렛교회의 신학과 전통에 기초하여 응답한 다. 셋째, 앞선 논의에 근거하여 공식 입장이 어떻게 재구성되어야 하는지를 제안한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Many denominations in the United States acknowledge same-sex marriage and the ordination of LGBTQ+ individuals as clergy, and this trend is expected to continue. The Church of the Nazarene in the U.S. is one of the representative denominations that maintains a traditional stance on this issue. However, in recent years, the denomination has faced collective challenges from dozens of queer theologians who are either members of or were educated within the Nazarene Church. This article critically explores the controversy surrounding LGBTQ+ issues within the Church of the Nazarene in the U.S., aiming to pro- vide a case study for the Korean church, which will need to address this issue seriously in the near future. To achieve this, the article first analyzes the official stance of the denomination on this matter. Second, it examines three key arguments made by the Nazarene queer theologians in opposition to the official stance and offers re- sponses to each based on Nazarene theology and tradition. Third, it proposes revisions to the official stance in light of the preceding discussion.
