공공갈등에 대한 시민의식 분석: 연령대별 변화와 지속의 관점에서 = An Analysis of Public Opinion on Korean Public Conflicts: Continuity and Change of Age Groups

This study aims at examining how a Korean society understands public conflicts and how their understanding has changed or continued for 8 years. While previous studies investigated the perception of public conflict as a one time event, this study examines the characteristics of the survey data for 8 years in a comprehensive and timely manner. In particular, the study analyzes how the perception on the severity of public conflict, the severity of public conflicts by type, the role of government, and the contribution of public conflict to democracy have been changed and continued. In addition, this study examines how differently age groups understand public conflict. The results of the survey show that there is a large difference in attitudes and perceptions toward public conflict in each age group and find that there is the change and continuity of the same age group. The results show that the difference in the severity of public conflict is gradually getting smaller by age group and exhibit that the negative evaluation of the effect of public conflict on democracy has increased in all age groups. Likewise, the study finds that the year-to-year difference in the same age group was not large in evaluating the role of government in public conflict resolution, on the other hand, the difference between age groups is large. The evaluation of the seriousness of public conflict, the contribution of democracy of public conflict, and the evaluation of the role of government in conflict resolution play an important role in understanding Korean public conflicts. More studies on the perception of the public on public conflict and the role of the government are necessary to manage and resolve public conflict efficiently.
