성공적인 다문화 프로그램 만들기: 미국 브라운 초등학교의 사례 = Creating a Successful Multicultural Program: The Case of Brown Elementary School in the U.S

Noticing the significant social and demographic changes in the U.S. and the growing need of multicultural education after the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, this study investigated how muticultural education was developed in U.S. public schools since the 1960s. The Brown elementary school which is located in a small Midwestern town in the U.S., had developed a successful multicultural program in the 1970s and 1980s which was known as a model multicultural/ bilingual education program. By conducting a case study that explored the history of the Brown elementary school`s multicultural education program, more specifically the history of a special English education program for minority students at Brown, this study examined some of the challenges U.S. public schools faced as they tried to develop multicultural education and how they could build successful multicultural programs. The study found that developing a successful multicultural education program requires sufficient human and financial resources, creative and flexible program, active parent and community involvement and the program philosophy that focuses on respecting and celebrating diversity.
