한국 음렬음악사 전개의 초석을 쌓은 나운영 = Unyung La, the Multidimensional Leader of Korean Serial Music in its Initial Stage

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Unyung La is known for composing the first Korean serial composition. However, his role in developing Korean serial music in its early stage was not limited to composition, but also included various cultural and educational activities. His work, Theme & 12 Variations Written in the Twelve-Tone Technique, was the composition that would bring serious discussion of serial music to the forefront of cultural discourse in Korea, and he himself participated in the discourse formation as a writer as well. He also contributed to the development of serial music as an educator, teaching it on campus by 1957 at the latest and publishing music theory textbooks that included introductions to serial music as early as 1958. In addition, he actively promoted interest in serial music by providing serial music classes in music programs off-campus. It was through such multi-pronged efforts that Unyung La paved the way for the establishment of Korean serial music in musical and, more broadly, cultural terms.
