Geomungo Sanjo was not simply emerge from nowhere, but it was throughout the generations. The importance of Geomungo Sanjo in the history of korean music is researched. Also how the original melody of Geomungo Sanjo has been influenced by thenext generations and passed on was considered. The main purpose of this research is focused on the clarifying the mutual relationship through the tone structure and melody analysis of Geomungo Sanjo of WON Gwang Ho·IM Dong Sik·KANG Dong Il which are being passed on now days and the HAN Gap Deuk Ryu Geomungo Sanjo which is the original music piece of Geomungo Sanjo. HAN Gap Deuk disciples played variation of tunes of existing Sanjo, or were influenced by other Genre of music to add new melodies and complete their own music. This study shows that Geomungo Sanjo uniquely form by personal technique and instrumental technique and both are important essential in the study of Geomungo Sanjo. Geomungo Sanjo is the progressive music that continuously creates new Genre, and concept of technique also changes into new aspect as time goes by. I hope this study helps to understand Sanjo in holistic perspectives that it reveals musical ideas and at the same time resembles a human life. In addition, I hope the result of this study could provide fundamental and meaningful basis for future studies on Sanjo of other instruments. Furthermore I expect the birth of today``s music which fulfills today`s aesthetic needs as Sanjo did about long years ago. Some of unsolved questions are remained for the future research.
