자연화된 인식론의 의의와 새로운 ‘앎’의 분석 = The Value of Naturalized Epistemology and a New Analysis of "Knowledge"

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서는 증거론에 대해서 제시되는 대표적인 비판에 대하여 답변을 한다. 증거론에 대한 반론은 충분한 증거를 가지고 있으면서 그 증거를 활용하지 않고 엉뚱한 계기로 믿음을 형성한 경우이다. 이 경우, 그 믿음은 정당하지 않지만 증거론에 따르면 정당하다고 해야 한다는 문제가 있다는 것이다. 증거론자들은 이와 같은 경우 인식적인 결함이 있음을 인정하지만 이것이 인식적 정당성의 문제는 아니라고 대답할 수 있다. 아울러 이러한 반론을 제시하는 자연화된 인식론의 의의를 충분히 살리면서 증거론이 어떤 의미에서 자연화된 인식론과 조화를 이룰 수 있는지에 대한 대안을 제시한다. 이는 새로운 닮의 분석을 제시하면서 자연화된 인식론이 기여할 수 있는 부분이 인식적 정당성 부분이라기보다는 믿음 조건임을 주장하는 것이다. 마지막으로 자연화된 인식론과 가장 가까운 신빙론의 경우에도 자연화 되기 어려운 부분이 있음을 보임으로 신빙론도 완벽한 자연주의가 될 수 없음을 설명한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper answers an alleged counterexample to evidential ism. The example says that there is a case in which a person who has sufficient evidence for a proposition P does not form his belief based on the evidence. The problem is that evidential ism must say the person's belief P is justified though his belief is not justified. Evidentialism admits that the person has an epistemic flaw. According to evidentialism, however, he is still justified in believing P. In order to solve the problem, I propose a new analysis of knowing which accomodates the value of naturalized epistemology. And I also claim that reliabilism cannot be entirely naturalized even if it is the theory that fits most with naturalized epistemology.
