The purpose of this study is to suggest a direction for the cultural enjoyment policy of Gwangju City based on the 2022 ‘Gwangju Citizen Cultural Enjoyment Survey.’ To this end, the study observed the changes in the cultural enjoyment of Gwangju citizens through comparison with the results of the ‘Gwangju Cultural Index Survey’ conducted on a pilot basis in 2016. In addition, this study attempted to identify the regional characteristics of Gwangju’s indexes through comparison with the ‘2022 National Culture and Arts Activity Survey’ that was conducted for all citizens. Through this, seven types of changes were derived with regard to Gwangju citizens’ cultural enjoyment in 2022: Transfer from passive ‘viewing’ to active participation, rise in club activities, strength in acquiring cultural information through ‘social media channels,’ increase in free admission rate, preference for daytime cultural activities on weekends, full-fledged emergence of the ‘50s and 60s’ generation as the subject of cultural enjoyment, rapid rise of ‘living craft.’ Based on the above, this study suggested the direction for Gwangju City’s cultural enjoyment policy by considering the characteristics of each group according to cultural ‘interest’ (general citizen group/cultural interest group), characteristics according to the dichotomy of the senior group (new senior/senior), characteristics of each group/generation of changes in cultural enjoyment method, and correlation between cultural enjoyment and creation of art ecosystem.
