The Baekbong religious group, the author of Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo, was the organization that played the role of the backbone for the establishment of the modern Daejonggyo. This group devoted considerable effort to establishing the elements necessary for the constitution of religion. They particularly focused their attention and efforts on building the theoretical foundation. These efforts yielded significant and meaningful results. The result was called “Jongri”, “Jongsa”, and “Jongrye”, which encompassed the doctrine, the history, and the rituals of the religion. Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo is included in the domain of “Jongli”, which again consists of “doctrine” and “religious ethics”, among which Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo corresponds to the religious ethics. The Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo’, which contains religious ethics, has five creeds as the core, which is again categorized as the principle of human religious practice for the god, human beings, and material objects.
On the other hand, it can be seen that the Baekbong group is based on its own reference in constructing the Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo. In particular, indescribing the ideological background of “OhJong-ji”, it is observed that the scriptures collected for religious construction are used. This can be said to be a clue that the description of Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo is not the pure product of the creation of the Baekbong group that is not based on data. Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo is largely composed of three parts. The first is the ideological origin of the book of Odaejongji, the next is the part that describes the history of Shinkyo according to the ideology based on the Jongji, and the last is the part of Baekbong’s proclamation of Odaejongji.
Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo had been undergoing some changes after the first proclamation was made. The changes is an internal change and an external change. The internal change, which can be seen within the Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo, was carried out three times, but despite the differences in the way of expression, the fundamental purpose remains unchanged. The external change was made after the publication of the Book “Odaejongji”, and one of the five creeds shows a deferent content from the original. This originated from the incident in which the missionary strategy was exposed in the early Daejonggyo missionary movement. This is judged to be a strategic option in carrying out the mission of Daejonggyo. Despite these internal and external changes, the Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo went through a process of deepening in the dimension of doctrine arrangement, and further had a significant influence on the development of the doctrine by providingits fundamental ideology in the description of the history Daejonggyo.
The final result of the process of Baekbong group’s denomination establishment, “Odaejongjiseo”, can be said to be at the starting point when viewed from the stage of the study. Therefore, it is hoped that the follow-up research centering on the Dangungyo-Odaejongjipomyungseo will continue.
