수학 ‘확률과 통계’ 영역에서의 중학교 2학년 학생의 성취 특성

Korean eighth grade students’ achievement in ‘Data and Chance’ of the ‘Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study(TIMSS)’ 2015 become lower than TIMSS 2011. ‘Data and Chance’ in TIMSS matches ‘Probability and Statistics’ in Korea national curriculum. ‘Probability and Statistics’ is important for students’ individual life, future
vocational life, and social needs. Therefore, the reasons why Korean eighth grade students’ achievement became lower in ‘Data and Chance’ of TIMSS 2015 and the characteristics of Korean eighth grade students’ achievement in probability and statistics should be identified. To analyze the characteristics of Korean students’
achievement, this study compared the TIMSS 2015 framework with the mathematics national curriculum, and analyzed the items of TIMSS 2015. This study results in identifying the 4 kinds of characteristics of Korean eighth grade students’ achievement in probability and statistics. Some suggestions for mathematics curriculum and
pedagogical methods are suggested based on the results of this study.
