다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examined the impact of prior cultural experience, as cultural capital, on cultural experience intention. More specifically, we divided cultural experience into trial-based and achievement-based ones, and tested if each type of experience has differential impacts on different types of intention. Bourdieu(1986) classified cultural capital into embodied, objectified, and institutionalized cultural capital which are mostly inherited from parents in specific social classes. This classification, however, can be properly applied when cultural genre, such as noble or popular culture, is clearly distinguished and social change is not occurring very fast. On the other hand, due to very fast technological advances and convergence of cultural areas, traditional cultural heritage concept may not be proper nowadays. Instead, it would be possible that personal cultural experiences become cultural capital, and cultural capital in turn leads to cultural experience intention which further expands to accumulate more cultural capital This study investigated the relationship between prior cultural experiences and cultural experience intention to confirm the logic above. More specifically, we used the survey data from 4,735 respondents at The Survey Report on Cultural Enjoyment published by Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. As a result, we found that while prior trial-based cultural experience has positive impacts on both trial-based and achievement-based cultural experience intention, achievement-based cultural experience has a positively impact on achievement-based cultural experience intention only. This result implies that cultural education policy need to focus on diverse and general cultural experiences for young students rather than specialized expertise and skills.
