In Silla, Gyeongju Bukcheon Stream, which originated from Hwangryong and Churyeong, left the Paleo-channels in various directions. After Silla was founded, how the main stream and the Paleo-channel were controlled is an important matter along with the formation of the ancient city. However, research on embankments of Paleo-channel has not been actively discussed so far. The flood records in the ‘SAMGUKSAGI’ and the related remains, natural sedimentary layers, and the dating results of the layers have not been analyzed in detail so far. This data presents important data in the interpretation of Paleo-channels Range and the remains linked sites.
This article aims to examine the river embankment of Bukcheon Stream, Gyeongju, which has been under discussion in detail so far. The scope of the study was from the vicinity of Supmeori Village to the confluence of Bukcheon and Seocheon (Hyungsan River). Controlling of Streams are a national project to control water, and it is highly likely that there was an ancient Bukcheon river embankment in Gyeongju, where the main of Bukcheon Stream and Paleo-channels were spread out.
First of all, the flood article of the ‘SAMGUKSAGI’ was divided into simply flooding and flood damage. To summarize the articles by this distinction, flood damage before the unification of the three kingdoms (676) was more frequent than flood damage after the unification of the three kingdoms. Furthermore, Cross sections surveyed in Bunhwangsa Temple, Hwangnyongsa Temple, S1E1, Wanggyeong Sup, Guhwangdongwonji pond, and Balcheon channel were estimated to have low water levels in Bukcheon Stream at that time. Current Bukcheon Stream flows about 4 meters below the Paleo Bukcheon Stream. Finally, referring to the article of PANJEOKTEAK of the ‘SAMGUKYUSA’, I noted the possibility that there was a GEUMIPTEAK on the north side of Bunhwangsa Temple. The current direction of Bukcheon Stream from northeast to northwest was determined. Based on the location of PANJEOKTEAK and the only investigated embankment in the northern part of Bukcheon Stream, Bukcheon flowed from Dongcheon-dong, the northern part of the current Bukcheon to souththern part of Hwangseong Park. Research on WANGGYEONG of Silla on the process of formation in conjunction with Bukcheon or Alcheon is insufficient. The results of this article are expected to be used as basic data that can be presented by Paleo morphology analysis in the Silla Wanggyeong Research.
