공공 언어의 공공성 : 신문사설을 중심으로 = Public Character of the Public Language

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to argue about the characters of the public language and to inspect whether the function of an edtotorial is positive or negative by the characters.
The characters of the public language which the public language are equipped with are as follows.
1. the dignity of language
2. the generalization of the object
3. the universality of the attribute
4. the objectivity of the view
5. the equitability of the pros and cons
6. the future-oriented outlook on the world.
On the ground of these criteria, some Korean editorials are positive because they come up with the new vision for Korean future society, but some Korean editorials are negative because they stir up the new troubles by their own or biased view. And there are some editorials which lose the dignity of language very extremely.
We need to make the criteria to inspect the Public Character of the Public Language for our future and to develop the method to apply the criteria rationally.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 공공 언어가 가져야 할 속성들을 논의하고, 그 기준점에 의해 신문의 사설들의 역기능과 순기능을 살펴보기 위한 것이다.
본고에서 논의한 공공성의 속성들을 간단히 정리하면 다음과 같다.
1. 언어의 품격성 - 문법성과 논리성 그리고 품위성 갖추기
2. 대상의 일반성 - 부분이든 전체이든 관련 대상에 두루 적용되기
3. 내용의 보편성 - 많은 사항들의 속성에 두루 통용되기
4. 시각의 객관성 - 주관성과 편협성을 벗어나기
5. 찬반의 공평성 - 찬론의 기회를 제공하기
6. 미래의 가치 지향성 - 미래의 발전과 진보를 위하기
이러한 기준점에서 보면 신문의 사설들은 한국 사회의 미래를 위해 새로운 비전을 제시하는 긍정적인 사례를 볼 수 있지만, 특별한 사안의 경우 가치관의 다름이나 편견으로 인해 심한 갈등을 조장하는 경우도 있었다. 그리고 언어의 품격을 현저히 떨어뜨리는 사설도 있었다.
우리 사회의 미래를 위해 신문 사설의 공공성을 측도할 수 있는 기준점을 만들고 이에 대해 평가하는 방법을 도입할 필요가 있다. 과연 그것이 가능할지는 우리 사회의 미래를 결정할 가치관에 의해 결정될 것이다.
