문화적 차이로 인한 갈등 해결 방법으로서의 소셜 미디어 활용 사례 - 대구 이슬람사원 갈등을 중심으로 = An examples of using social media as a way to resolve conflicts caused by cultural differences - Centered on the Daegu Mosque issue

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국은 이제 OECD 기준으로 다인종·다문화 국가로 진입해 있다고 볼 수 있다. 하지만 아직도 우리 주변에서는 이질적 문화에 대한 편견과 적대감을 가진 사건들을 접한다. 최근 대구에서는 일부 주민들이 이슬람사원 건립을 반대하는 사건이 발생하였다. 이 과정에서 다른 문화에 대한 적대감을 표출하는 폭력적인 모습도 언론에 소개되었다. 대구 무슬림 커뮤니티는 소셜 미디어인 유튜브에 관련 내용을 소개하면서 자신들의 의견을 피력했다. 그것은 사회 일반이 이 사건에 관심을 갖도록 했으며, 이후에는 주요 언론이 이 사건을 소개하기 시작하는 계기를 만들었다. 반면에 주민들을 온라인 커뮤니케이션 활용보다는 물리적인 행동으로 자신들의 의견을 표현했다. 이번 사건은 다문화·다인종 사회에 접어든 한국에 중요한 시험대가 될 수 있다. 그리고 주민들이 새로운 커뮤니케이션 환경 안에서의 또 다른 방법을 찾았으면 어땠을까, 하는 아쉬움이 남는다. 이것은 다문화·다인종 사회를 앞둔 한국 사회에서 문화적 다양성으로 인한 갈등 해결의 한 방향을 생각해 보게 한다. 이번 사건의 전개 과정에서 현대사회의 소셜 미디어가 가진 특징을 생각해 볼 수 있다. 다문화 시대를 준비하기 위해서 이질적 문화에 대한 유연한 사고와 분별력은 다수와 소수 모두에게 동등하게 요구되는 내용이다. 이번 사건에서 대구 무슬림 커뮤니티가 보여준 유연한 커뮤니케이션의 방법은 종교와 관련된 갈등 해결의 보다 발전적인 방향을 제시할 수 있는 계기가 될 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Korea can now be said to have entered a multi-racial and multicultural country according to OECD standards. However, around us we still encounter incidents of prejudice and hostility toward foreign cultures. Recently, an incident occurred in Daegu where some residents opposed the construction of a mosque. In this process, violent scenes expressing hostility toward other cultures were also introduced to the media. The Daegu Islamic community expressed their opinions by introducing related contents on YouTube. It brought the general public's attention to the case, and later created an opportunity for major media outlets to begin covering the case. On the other hand, residents expressed their opinions through physical actions rather than through online communication. This incident could be an important test for Korea, which has entered a multicultural and multiracial society. And I wonder what it would have been like if residents had found another method in the new communication environment. This makes us think about one way to resolve conflicts caused by cultural diversity in Korean society, which is about to become a multicultural and multiracial society. In the course of this incident, we can think about the characteristics of social media in modern society. In order to prepare for the multicultural era, flexible thinking and discernment regarding heterogeneous cultures are equally required of both the majority and the minority. The flexible communication method shown by the Daegu Muslim community in this incident can serve as an opportunity to suggest a more progressive direction in resolving conflicts related to religion.
