인간 향상의 도덕교육적 함의

국문 초록 (Abstract)

신경과학 시대에서 향상 논쟁(enhancement debate)은 신경윤리학의 대표적인 쟁점이라고 할 수 있다. 뇌 기능을 변화시킬 수 있는 인간의 능력은 철기 시대의 야금술, 산업혁명 시대의 기 계화, 20세기 후반의 유전공학처럼 새로운 인류 역사를 쓰고 있기 때문이다. 치료와 향상 개념 의 엄격한 구분이 점차 모호해지고 있는 상황을 고려할 때, 인간 향상의 찬반 논쟁은 앞으로 더욱 가열될 것이 분명하다. 이에 이 논문에서는 인간 향상의 의미와 방법에 대해 살펴보고, 인간 향상에서의 윤리적 쟁점들을 분석하며, 인간 향상 논쟁에 대한 도덕교육적 대응 방안을 모색하였다. 약물에 의한 뇌 기능 향상은 안전성, 개인적 진실성, 사회적 압력, 공정성과 평등, 행복과 인간다움의 관점에서 윤리적으로 문제가 있을 수 있다. 그러므로 도덕교육자들은 학생 들을 양육하는 것과 디자인하는 것의 차이를 분명히 인식해야 하고, 인간 향상 문제를 도덕교 육 내용으로 도입하여 인간 향상의 문제에 대한 학생들의 도덕적 인식 능력과 판단 능력을 신장시켜 주어야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The human enhancement debate is one of the major issues of neuroethics in an age of neuroscience. The reason why is that human's ability to alter its own brain function shape history as the development of metallurgy in the Iron age, mechanization in the Industrial Revolution or genetics in the second half of the twentieth century. Considering that the difference between treatment and enhancement is becoming blurred, the enhancement debate is getting hot in the near future. In this regard, this article articulated the definitions and methods of brain enhancement, analyzed ethical problems of brain enhancement by psychopharmacology, and propose coping methods of moral education to solve those problems. Brain enhancement by drugs is ethically problematic in terms of safety, social pressure, fairness and equality, and happiness & humanity. Moral educators should be a moral opinion leader who informs the mass of the difference between raising students and designing students. They should introduce the enhancement debate into the contents of moral education so that students are able to aware the ethical problems of enhancement drugs and to develop their own moral perspectives.
