국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 ‘서사(narrative)’라는 용어는 문학분과를 넘어 광범위하게 적용된다. 서사 개념의 확산과 확장은 서사의 편재성과 다양성, 문화콘텐츠로서의 가치, 분과학문의 서사적 전회, 지식과 이론의 서사화 경향 등과 무관하지 않다. 현재 서사로 지칭되는 다채로운 현상들은 구조주의 서사학의 방법으로 충분히 해명하기 어렵다. 언술우위론은 서사를 언어게임으로 취급하고 이야기우위론은 추상적인 구조나 체계를 강조하기 때문이다. 따라서 서사의 보편적인 구조나 속성보다 인간의 서사적 상상력을 자극하는 인식의 가치를 주목할 필요가 있다. 서사는 인간이 자신과 타인을 이해하는 수단이며 서사의 질서원리(구조)는 삶의 과정과 다원적인 관계에 있다. 면밀하게 따져보면 삶과 이야기에서 우리는 능동적인 행위주체가 아니라 능동적인 이야기 주체이다. 그러나 누가 무엇을 누구에게 이야기하는가라는 발화 포지션의 문제는 정치경제적 권력의 문제이기도 하다. 이런 점에서, 서사론은 사회적 약소자들을 이야기하는 새로운 주체로 이해하고 이들이 생산하는 마이너리티서사를 새로운 관심 영역으로 삼을 만하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The concept of 'narrative' is applied widely beyond literary departments nowadays. Dissemination and extension of the narrative concept is related to the omnipresence and diversity of narratives, values as cultural contents, narrative turns in branches of science and the narrativization of knowledge and theory.
The current various narrative phenomena are difficult to be explained thoroughly by structural narratology. The reason is that the discourse-oriented theory treats story as a word game, and the story-oriented theory emphasizes metaphysical structures or systems.
Therefore, the value of recognition that stimulates narrative imagination of human is more worthy of notice than universal structures or properties of narrative. Narrative is the way people understand themselves and others, and the principle of order in narrative has a pluralistic relationship with the process of life.
Close attention shows that we are not acting subjects but narrating subjects in our lives and stories. The problem of telling position which concerns who tells whom, however, is also the problem of politico-economical power. For these reasons, it is worthwhile for the narrative theory to understand minorities as narrating subjects and draw attention to those minority narratives.
