Developmental dictatorship in South Korea = 대한민국의 개발과 독재

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Some scholars praise Park Chung-hee as a great leader, others curse him as a brutal dictator. For South Korea as a nation, in general, the Park administration did good. Korea has been transformed from a weak state into a strong industrialized one.
President Park did a great deal for Korea. In fact, thanks to his leadership Korea became industrialized country. But that does not mean we can accept everything he did as correct. People did not have freedom during this time.
Even though Park Chung-hee had fantastic success in economic modernization, in political modernization he did nothing at all. Economic modernization will not work without political modernization. The Korean case is an exception thanks to a fortunate external environment and American aid.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

어떤 학자들은 박정희 대통령을 위대한 지도자로 생각하고 또 다른 학자들은 잔혹한 독재자로 여긴다. 박정희 정부는 전반적으로 국가 정치를 하는데 좋은 성과를 거두었다. 그의 정치로 한국은 힘이 없는 나라에서 강대국으로 발전하였다.
박정희 대통령은 한국을 위해 공을 많이 세웠다. 사실, 그의 리더십은 한국이 산업화 국가로 발전하는데 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 하지만 그가 한 모든 일들이 올바르다고 할 수는 없다. 그는 독재자였고 사람들은 그의 명령에 순종해야 했으며 자유는 없었다.
박정희 대통령이 국가의 경제 발전에 환상적인 성공을 거두었음에도 불구하고 정치적 면에서는 그가 세운 공이 전혀 없다. 경제의 발전은 정치적 발전 없이 이룰 수 없다. 한국의 경우, 다행히 미국의 도움을 받아 경제가 발전한 예외의 국가라고 할 수 있다.
