      Confucianism as the foundation of traditional culture is regarded as the source of various social evils in korea. Some people point out the conflict between Confucianism and the civil ethics of western society. And other people indicate it as the cause of backwardness of politics and inefficiency of economics. Such indications are proper in a way. But confucian traditions are still existent abundantly in our senses and ways of life, so we can not cast off them at one time. On that account we cannot but examine the meanings of Confucianism anew in these days. So I attempt to inquire into the religious sur-reality of Confucianism by use of the methodology of the science of religion in this paper. Confucianism attached much importance to social life of mankind, so it contained many theories of politics and ethics. But such theories are to some degree theoretical and exterior, it is difficult for us to apply such theories to problems of contemporaries. So I attempt to inquire into the possibility of practical use` as religious and spiritual training. Of course contrary to the other established religions, Confucianism does not have religious order, so it does not have daily religious training in a group. But if we examine the methods of moral training of Sung-Li-Hak(Ag), we can find the methods of spiritual and existential religious training in there. On account of this character of Confucianism, Any Confucianist who understands traditional culture in the present day can provide `contents of spiritual training` that is equivalent to the other religions. Therefore though without having self-consciousness of Confucianist or practicing any ceremony of Confucianism, any intellectual who is based on the understanding of korean tradition can get close to the religious sur-reality of Confucianism through such trainings as this. Toegye`s Sung-Hak-Syp-Do(聖學十圖) is one of the most important work that we can study such a spiritual training. Because Toegye studied the contents of moral training of Sung-Li-Hak all his life, and compiled the core of that subject into a book, I take this book for an example in this paper.
