The annual concert of Korean Music Department at Jeonbuk National University has continued since 1988 and changed. By examining and analyzing the concert from the 19th to the 33rd, this research finds out some historically important and newly attempted issues.
Jeonbuk National University's Korean Music Department has an educational ideology based on folk music, so it can be assumed that the music selection for regular concerts is related to the curriculum of the Department. Among them, courses that are closely connected to the concert include ‘Folk Music Ensemble,’ ‘Korean Creative Music Analysis,’ ‘Korean Music Orchestra,’ and ‘Pansori.’ In addition, new courses such as ‘Creative Pansori Theory’ and ‘Pansori Acting’ have been opened since 2020, and led the concert to the expansion of its performance repertoire.
When looking at the repertoire of regular concerts, it plays an important role in the development of local culture in terms of promoting folk music transmission and tourist attractions in Jeolla Province.
Although it is common to perform creative music that have been paid for, the department also gain new music by establishing a music organization in the school to improve students' performing skills and to provide opportunities to procure creative pieces.
