일제강점기 천도교 기관지 『新人間』을 통해 본 수운주의(水雲主義) 예술론의 실천 = The Practice of Soowoon’s Art Theory seen through New Human(新人間), a Cheondogyo magazine during the Japanese colonial period

The purpose of this study is to focus on Soowoonism‘s Art Theory that developed in 1930’s through 『New Humans(新人間)』 during the Japanese colonial period.
The contents of this study are as follows.
The discourse on art was developed in 1930’s through 『New Human Beings』, which was founded in April 1926 with the identity of ‘an ideological magazine aimed at human reform.’ In this process, the legitimacy of the Cheondogyo art movement was asserted, and the creation of Cheondogyo novels, poems, and fairy tales was suggested as a concrete practice. This discourse develops through religious art theory, Cheondogyo art theory, Soowoonism Culture Theory, and People edification art theory, reaching its peak in Soowoonism Art Theory.
Along with the discursive progress of art theory, artistic practice through literary creation continues. If we pay attention to novels serialized over a long period of time among the creative works published through 『New Human(新人間)』, we can examine the practice process of Soowoonism‘s Art more systematically. Kim Myeong-ho expressed his thoughts in the author’s words at the beginning of his novel Moogimoojeong(無知無情), and after finishing his work, he published a review of his work. Through this, the author’s creative intention, creation of the work, and review of the work were linked step by step, and the process of the author’s claims, application, and reflection on Soowoonism‘s Art was systematically identified.
Kim Myeong-ho, the author of Novel Moogimoojeong(無知無情), explains that Soowoonism‘s Art is reading material that people can easily access’ and that it is ‘art that can resonate with the heart of Hanul and receive a great influence.’ This means that it takes a form that young people can sympathize with rather than events that have passed in the past, and that it is a content that resonates and exposes Hanul’s heart and allows them to be influenced.
The results of this study are as follows.
The discursive development and literary practice of Soowoonism Art Theory and literary practice through 『New Human(新人間)』 did not progress further due to the times of Japanese oppression, It was a response to the needs of the times based on the establishment of a research group for Soowoonism, centered on young leaders of the Cheondogyo New Group, and was a way of solving problems within the Cheondogyo Church to overcome the inferiority of the church in the 1930s, which was different from the 1920s.
