The Effects of Echoic-to-Tact Transfer Procedure on Tacts of Children with Developmental Disabilities

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of echoic-to-tact transfer procedure on tacts of children with developmental disabilities. In this study two 4-year-old and one 5-year-old children with developmental disabilities attending a childcare center were participated. A multiple probe design across participants was used to examine the procedure effectiveness. In addition, AB design was used to investigate the procedure effectiveness by the number of syllable. Results indicated that all participants’ tacts increased upon the implementation of the echoic-to-tact transfer procedure, and acquired tacts were maintained after the transfer procedure was discontinued. However, there were no differences in all participants’ tacts by the number of syllable. The results suggest that this echoic-to-tact transfer procedure can be used to improve tacts of children with developmental disabilities in various educational settings.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 에코익-택트 전이절차가 발달장애아동의 택트행동에 미치는 효과를 조사하는 것이었다. 연구 참여자는 어린이집에 재원 중인 3명의 4, 5세 발달장애아동이었고, 본 연구에서 실시한 전이절차의 효과를 조사하기 위하여 단일대상 연구설계법의 하나인 중다간헐기초선설계가 사용되었다. 추가로 개별 연구 참여자의 음절수에 따른 택트행동을 분석하기 위하여 AB 설계가 사용되었다. 연구결과에 따르면, 모든 연구 참여자의 택트행동이 기초선에 비해 에코익-택트 전이절차가 적용된 후에 현저하게 증가되었고, 전이절차가 종료된 후에도 증가된 택트행동이 유지되었다. 그러나 모든 연구 참여자의 음절수에 따른 택트행동에는 차이가 없었다. 이러한 결과는 에코익-택트 전이절차가 발달장애아동의 택트행동을 가르치는데 효과적인 방법이라는 것을 보여주었다.
