부산지역 일반계 고등학교의 학업 성취도에 대한 사립학교 효과 분석 = Private School Effects on Academic Achievements of High Schools in Busan

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study conducted a research, free from selection bias, to analyze whether private high schools in Busan are more effective than public high schools in terms of enhancing students’ academic performance. The results of the study showed that there was no evidence which suggested that private high schools had a statistically significant impact compared to public high schools with respect to improving academic records. Further, this study found that private high schools did not provide superior schooling as measured by test scores. Excellency of private high schools was just because parents who were middle income and above chose to send their children to private high school even when there was no evidence of positive effects on academic performance. The results of this study imply that the policy of the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education toward enhancing students’ academic performance should be amended to create a new school culture and renovation of school organization. Lastly, this study differs from previous researches which used national data while the present study focused on Busan thus verifying that private school effects are location-specific.
