A hemodynamic study of cardiac cycle by means of simultaneous recording of apexcardiogram and phonocardiogram was done in 34 cases of valvular heart disease. The findings were analyzed according to the valves involved; namely, pure or predominent mitral stenosis (mitral stenosis group)-13 cases, pure or predominent mitral regurgitation(mitral regurgitation group)-16 cases, and pure or predominent aortic regurgitation (aortic regurgitation group)-5 cases, and the results were compared with the findings in healthy subjects formerly reported by the author. And the following results were obtained:
1. The time interval from the beginning of contraction to the end of ejection of blood of the left ventricle tended to shorten in all three conditions, but the one from the beginning of contraction of left ventricle to closure of mitral valve were prolonged, particularly in mitral stenosis group.
2. In mitral stenosis group, the interval from cessation of left ventricular ejection to closure of aortic valve tended to shorten, whereas it tended to prolong in mitral and aortic regurgitation groups.
3. The interval from closure of aortic valve to opening of mitral valve tended to shorten in both mitral stenosis, but it tended to prolong in aortic regurgitation group.
4. In mitral stenosis group, the rapid filling phase tended to shorten, whereas the slow filling phase tended to prolong.
