In the nowaday contemporary society that is specialized and diversified, the preenact situation is that folk religion is alienated and neglected while beaconing the basis of the popular Culture. This is recognized as the way of thinking that originates from the commonly accepted idea that it is unrelated to rapidly changing society and folklore. But it is thought that there is a consistent association between folk religion and the socio-cultural reality in and essential respect. That is, the folk religion is the form of the popular religion and people`s world-view of the populace in a traditional society. And it seems that it would be good to view the folk religion as the living culture latent in the contemporary society. An attempt was made to inquire into the folk religion by dividing it into shamanistic religion, family-god religion and community religion in a broad sense. But they are closely related to each other as the mutually organic relationship and show the aspect of their evolving and developing in accordance with the social situation of the times. The feature of the folk religion is that it does not only exist everywhere in culture and society irrespective of any regime while having no system or organization as religion but has an influence on the formation of a new culture. Our culture of today is confronted with the period of chaos in establishing its specific survival and buiding up the culture to awaken people to its value. This takes a form of the different culture in accordance with the characteristics of the times in each country, which can be thought to be attributable to pur excessively easy acculturation to the western culture while neglecting our folk way of thinking and culture. The tradition is the popular way of living in each era and its value and significance are developed into a meaning of new recreation nowadays. Accordingly, we will have to grope a new direction for the promotion of a future-oriented culture by recognizing and reilluminating the folk religion the foundation of the popular religion from the current social perspective in recognition of the point that the thing of value in our present life would become a tradition of that future Folkways are what has been read rather than what will have to read` in the future. In light of what will have to be read`, it is possible to diagnose the actuality of the nowaday culture and make the prescription appropriate to it.
