중국과 우리나라 흉배(胸背)에 관한 고찰 = Study on China and Korea Hyungbae, or Robe Badges

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리나라의 복식은 인근 주변 국가와 밀접한 관계를 가져 때로는 영향을 받기도 하고 때로는 영향을 주면서 상호 발전하였으며. 이러한 과정 속에서 우리나라 특유의 복식문화를 이루었다. 특히 사회가 상하의 이동이 자유롭지 못한 사회에서는 복식을 통 한 계급 표시에 많은 노력을 하였으며. 이러한 노력으로 복식의 장식성이 더해지게 되기도 하였다. 본 연구에서는 복식에 문양을 첨가하여 계급을 표시하였던 흉배에 관한 것으로 중국의 흉배제도에 영향을 받아 이루어진 우리나라의 흉배제도가 중국과는 달리 어떻게 발전 · 완성되어 가는가를 고찰하였다. 먼저 중국의 제도를 알아보고. 그 변화 속에서 우리나 라 조선시대의 흉배제도가 어떻게 중국과는 다른 독자적인 양식을 형성하였는가를 고찰하고자 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Hyungbae were badges attached on the robe that indicated the person's rank in the MingㆍChing and Chosun dynasty. The round Hyungbae of the king, called bo(補), wear attached on the front, back, and both shoulders of the robe, attached on the front and back. Imaginary animals such as dragons, turtles, giraffes, and phoenixes were used on the badges of the king and royal family, intended to dignify them with symbols of auspiciousness. Those the civil officials on the other hand used bird designs such as peacocks, cranes, and pheasants which signified the lofty mind of the Literati Military officials were distinguished by brave animal designs such as leopard and others. The number of animals also indicated the level of rank higher rank officials had two animals, while officials had only one.
