This article examines Leonardo Bruni`s mixed constitution theory, who was a humanist and statesman in Renaissance Florence. Bruni witnessed frequent fluctuations of political regime in Florence which have experienced a lot of confusion in the conflict between the democratic elements and aristocratic ones. He catched the advantages and disadvantages of democracy led by lower class. Also Aristocratic power and resources are indispensable elements in politics, but their tendency to rule over the law has to be controled. Thus, two important forces of Florentine politics, I. e. the nobility and the people have to be controlled in order to keep their mean or the middle ways. To this end, Bruni claimed the mixed constitution theory based on Aristotle`s political thought. The theory of mixed constitution aims at inclusion, not exclusion. It is for the coexistence.
