비교사회주의적 접근을 활용한 북한연구: 유용성, 개념활용 그리고 구조화된 비교 = Applying Comparative Socialism Research approach to North Korean studies: Utiltiy, Concept Utilization, and Structured Comparison

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research contrives a way to improve North Korean Studies via comparative socialism. Specifically, it explores why comparative socialism was not developed in the Cold War era and its relationship with comparative historical analysis and Cold War history. This paper argues that although comparative socialism tends to emphasize North Korea’s universality as socialism, it does not collide with the “Singularity Perspective on North Korea.” Instead, comparison can help to capture the singularity of North Korea. Besides, this approach is also valid for understanding contemporary North Korea after the “Arduous March” because many other socialist countries had coexisted with the market. Lastly, it suggests some comparative research tips and provides examples of “structured comparison.”

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 비교사회주의 방법론이 북한연구에 기여할 수 있는 방안을 고민하였다. 구체적으로 냉전시기의 비교사회주의 연구가 활성화되지 못했던 원인 및 비교역사분석과 냉전사와의 관계를 다루었다. 특히 비교사회주의 연구가 사회주의적 보편성에 주목하고 있음에도 이러한 접근이 북한의 특수성론과 대립하기 보다는 오히려 특수성을 정교하게 포착할 수 있다는 점을 논의하였다. 또한 과거 사회주의 국가들 역시 계획과 시장의 공존을 경험하였기 때문에 고난의 행군 이후의 북한에게도 여전히 유효한 시사점을 제공할 수 있다는 점을 밝혔다. 마지막으로 비교사회주의 연구를 실시할 때에 고려해야 할 점들과 ‘구조화된 비교’의 예시를 제시하였다.
