좌우의 경계에서 -김두봉의 북한체제 대변 활동과 중도적 정치 노선 실천- = At the boundary between the Left and the Right -Kim Du-bong’s Activities Representing the North Korean Regime and His Implementation of a Moderate Political Line-

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 항일운동가 출신 정치인 김두봉이 북한체제의 건설 과정에서 수행한 역할과 그가 실천했던 중도적 정치 노선을 분석하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 그동안 김두봉은 “북한체제의 충실한 대변인”이라는 오해를 받기도 했다. 그러나 사실 그는 좌우의 경계에서 또는 민족주의와 사회주의의 경계에서 민족 통일전선의 실현을 위해 중도적 정치 노선을 실천한 인물이었다. 계급적 이해관계보다 전 조선 민족의 이해관계를 우선시한 그는 북한체제의 좌편향 상황에서도, 의회적 절차와 민주주의적 법질서의 회복을 통해 체제의 경직성을 완화하려는 노력을 보였다. 모호한 감이 있었던 그의 중도적 정치 노선은 주변의 의심을 사기도 했으나, 그가 북한체제 하에서 독자적 정치 공간을 구축하며 입지를 다질 수 있었던 원동력이기도 했다. 좌우의 경계에서 통일국가 수립을 위해 그가 보여준 유연한 정치 노선은 남북 교류와 통일의 기대감이 희석돼가고 있는 현시기를 살아가는 한국인들에게 많은 시사점을 던져줄 수 있다.

This study aims to analyze the roles played by Kim Du-bong, a politician and former anti-Japanese activist, in the process of constructing the North Korean regime, as well as the practical application of the centrist political line he adhered to. Kim Du-bong has been misunderstood as a “faithful spokesperson for the North Korean regime.” However he was a figure who practiced a centrist political line to realize a national united front at the boundary between the left and the right, or between nationalism and socialism. Prioritizing the interests of the entire Korean nation over class interests, he made efforts to alleviate the rigidity of the system by restoring parliamentary procedures and democratic legal order, even amidst the regime’s leftward leanings. Although his somewhat ambiguous centrist political line was met with suspicion from those around him, it was also the driving force that enabled him to establish an independent political space and solidify his position within the North Korean regime. The flexible political line he demonstrated at the boundary between the left and the right for the establishment of a unified state offers significant implications for Koreans living in the present era, where expectations for inter-Korean exchange and unification are fading.
