In recent years, women counseling has become a familiar term to the counseling practitioners as well as the lay persons in Korea. At the same time, the needs of the specialized understandings of clients as women based on the view point of Feminism and duely elaborated techniques to meet the objects or women counseling are prevalented. Upon the review of the relevant literature, the researcher defines of women counseling as the helping relationship between the professionally trained counselor and the women clients toward the realistic self-awareness of the clients. Through the process, women counseling tries to focus the growth of the mind and behaviors of the women clients.
The aim of this paper is to develop some new directions of Korean women counseling. In order to pursue the attempts, the researcher set up two-folded research agenda, namely, questionnaire method (open-ended questionnaire on the role-conflicts of women) and case study analysis method.
Based on the results, the new directions of Korean Women counseling are suggested as follow:
① The counselors who help women clients should have sound understandings on women from the view of Feminism, so that the clients could explore themselves without hesitations based on sexism.
② The process of women counseling should be focused on resocialization of the clients consciousness. The process of resocialization consist of three steps. First step is self-awareness and its acceptance. Second is self-determination and activation. Third is the awareness and acceptance of social restricts.
③ The objects of women counseling are re-establishment of values based on the reality of self-awareness.
This paper has the following limitation.
① The members of subjects are relatively small so that it is difficult the generalize the outcomes.
② The style of the research method which is based on the subjective evaluation of the researcher and the descriptive writings can be the causes of misleading the results.
