The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of socially-prescribed perfectionism on social anxiety and to determine the mediating role of negative social self-concept, self-concealment, and maladaptive self-focused attention. Data based on self-report questionnaires from a sample of 304 aged 20 to 40 in early adulthood were targeted in total were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 26 and SPSS Process macro 4.2. The results of the study were as follows. First, socially-prescribed perfectionism had a positive correlation with negative social self-concept, self-concealment, maladaptive self-focused attention and social anxiety. Second, in the effect of socially-prescribed perfectionism on social anxiety was fully mediated by negative social self-concept, self-concealment and maladaptive self-focused attention. Third, the relationship between socially-prescribed perfectionism and social anxiety was sequentially mediated by Negative social self-concept and self-concealment. In addition, the relationship between socially-prescribed perfectionism and social anxiety was sequentially mediated by negative social self-concept and maladaptive self-focused attention. The results of this study are significant in that socially-prescribed perfectionism in aged 20 to 40 in early adulthood an understanding of the psychological mechanism leading to social anxiety. In particular, when socially-prescribed perfectionism is high, it indicates the need to lower the level of social anxiety by lowering negative social self-concept, self-concealment and maladaptive self-focused attention. Based on these results, limitations and implications and recommendations were discussed.
