The present study attempted to analyze the perceptions the administrative practices by two major reference groups in school; administrators (principals and assistant principals) and teachers.
The administrative practices were broadly classified into 6 areas in this study :
1) basic philosophy, policies and planning.
2) principal's role
3) educational programg and supervision
4) professional growth of teachers
5) working conditions of teachers
6) community relation
A 36-item questionnaire was developed, each with 5-step rating scale. A total of 417 principals, assitant principals and classroom teachers selected among public and private junior and senior high school in Pusan and Kyong Sang-nam province responded to the questionnaire.
Their responses were classified into various categories, differentiated by geographical location, establishment (public or private), and status (administrator or teacher).
2. result & conclusions:
The findings were as follows:
1) in general 38.9% of the respondents found the administrative practices as being average, 29% as above average and 32.1% as below average and dissatisfying.
2) in general 41% of the administrators and 38.2% of the classroom teachers perceived them as being average 39% of the administrators and 25.9% of classroom teachers perceived them as satisfactory and 20% of the administrators and 35.9% of teachers, as dissatisfying.
3) in terms of differences in establishment, 40.6% of public school administrators and teachers found them as averaged 37.1% of private school administrators and teachers found them as average. 29.9% of the public group and 28.1% of the private group perceived them as being satisfactory and 29.5% of the public group and 34.8% of the private group conceived them as being unsatisfactory.
4) in terms of geographical location 35.3% of the large city group, 41.7% of the intermediate city group and 42.5% of the rural group them as average; 28.3% of the large city group, 32.1% of the intermediate city group and 27.6% of the rural group found them as satisfactory; and 36.4% of the large city group, 26.2% of the intermediate city group and 29.9% of the rural group found them as unsatisfactory.
From the above it may be generally concluded that the administrators and teachers are not satisfied with the existing administrative practices, the classtoom teachers are less satisfied; the private groups are less satisfied; the intermediate city groups are less satisfied with the existing administratve practices.
