문화창조 가능성에 비추어 본 청소년 개념의 재고찰 = Rethinking the Concept of Youth, Reflecting the Possibility of Cultural Creation

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article deals with the ongoing process of the conceptual changes of the youth. Just like it took hundreds of years to complete the concept of the child as the symbol of protection and progress since the discovery of the child in 16th century, the concept of adolescent as misgivings and uncertainty which emerged at the end of the 19th century, now begins to throw away those negative senses of the meaning.
Youth as those who attempt liberal cultural challenges while they are economically vulnerable, have strived for such identity only since the last decades of the 20th century. As the resistant spirit which aims to recover the innocent superego against all the polluted worldly power is the privilege of the youth, the deconstructive features of postmodern times provides the youth culture as meaning production with unprecedented friendly environments. Recent examples in Korea such as the crisis of repressive schools and the dynamic gatherings through on-line comminucations reveal the hope how the youth can achieve the cultural reorganization.
The concept of youth, which tended to be limited to adolescent teenagers as the subjects of concern and control, is about to expand into the broader span of young people who participate in the cultural movements targeting the rehabilitation of the morality of progress.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 아직도 진행형인 청소년 개념의 변화 과정을 다룬다. 16세기에 아동이라는 개념이 발견된 이후 보호와 진보의 상징으로서 아동 개념이 완성되기까지 수백년의 세월이 걸렸듯이, 19세기 말에야 등장하는 청소년의 개념은 이제 겨우 그 부정적 의미를 벗어내기 시작하였다고 말할 수 있다.
경제적으로 취약한만큼 자유로운 문화적 도전을 시도하는 집단으로서의 청소년은 20세기 후반 이후에야 그 정체성을 갖추어 가고 있다. 오염된 세상의 권력에 눈 떠 순수한 초자아를 회복하려는 저항 정신이 청소년의 특권이라면, 탈근대의 해체적 특성은 의미 생산으로서의 청소년 문화에게 더 없는 친화적 환경을 제공하고 있다. 최근 한국 사회에서 보여지는 억압적인 학교의 붕괴나 온라인과 연계한 집회들의 역동성은 청소년에 의한 문화적 재조직이 어떻게 가능할지에 대한 희망을 드러내고 있다.
바야흐로 청소년의 개념은 염려와 통제의 대상으로서의 10대에 국한되지 않고, 진보의 도덕성을 소생시킬 문화 운동에 동참하는 보다 폭 넓은 외연의 젊은 사람들로 확장하고 있다.
