직장 내 호칭어 사용에 대한 사회언어학적 연구 - 뉴스 자료와 드라마 자료 분석을 바탕으로 - = A Sociolinguistic Study on the Use of Workplace Terms of Address - Analysis of News and Drama Data -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 뉴스 자료와 드라마 자료를 통해 직장 내 공적 관계에서 사용되는 호칭어 변화를 통시적으로 살피고, 이러한 변화가 일어나게 된 이유가 무엇인지를 밝히고자 하는 데 있다. 호칭어 사용의 변화 양상을 살핀 기존의 연구는 주로 사적 관계에서 사용되는 호칭어에 대해 다루고 있어 직장 내 공적 관계에서 사용되는 호칭어 변화에 대한 논의는 부족한 형편이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 직장 내 공적 관계에서 사용되는 호칭어가 어떠한 변화 양상을 보이는지, 또 그러한 변화 양상이 관찰되는 이유는 무엇인지를 알아보기 위해 뉴스 자료와 드라마 자료를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 직장 내 호칭어는 시간의 흐름에 따라 다음과 같은 변화 양상이 관찰되었다. 1980년대는 직장 내 여성에게 차별적으로 사용되는 호칭어가 사회적 관심의 대상이 되었다. 이러한 호칭어 사용의 문제 제기가 드라마에 수용되어 1990년대 드라마부터는 성차별적인 호칭어 사용이 관찰되지 않았다. 2000년대는 조직 구조의 변화 차원에서 직장 내 호칭어가 직함에서 이름으로 변화하는 것에 사회가 주목하지만, 2000년대 드라마에는 직함 호칭어가 여전히 사용되는 것으로 관찰되었다. 한편, 2010년대에는 직함 호칭어뿐만 아니라 영어 이름이라는 새로운 유형의 호칭어 사용이 관찰되었다. 특히, 영어 이름이 사용되는 드라마의 경우는 위계 차이에 따른 호칭어의 사용 차이는 관찰되지 않았다. 이 연구는 뉴스 자료를 통해 직장 내 호칭어와 관련한 사회 변화를 확인하고, 사회 변화가 현실에 어떻게 수용되는지 드라마 자료를 통해 확인하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the diachronic changes in the terms of address used in public workplace relationships by analyzing news articles and television dramas. While previous studies on terms of address have primarily focused on private relationships, discussions on changes in address usage within public contexts remain insufficient. To fill this gap, this study investigates how terms of address in the workplace have changed over time and explores the reasons behind such changes through an analysis of both news and drama data. The findings reveal the following patterns. In the 1980s, gender-discriminatory terms of address for women in the workplace became a topic of public concern. This issue was reflected in 1990s dramas, where such discriminatory usage was no longer observed. In the 2000s, public attention shifted to changes in organizational structure, with increasing interest in the transition from title-based to name-based terms of address. However, dramas from this period continued to show the use of title-based forms. In the 2010s, not only did title-based forms appear, but new types of terms of address—such as English names—also emerged. Notably, in dramas that employed English names, hierarchical differences in the use of terms of address were not observed. This study is significant in that it identifies social changes related to workplace terms of address through news articles and demonstrates, through drama data, how these changes were accepted, delayed, or resisted in actual discourse practices.
