We report the experience of allergic rhinitis due to wood dust of western red cedar (Thuja plicata) and review the literature briefly. A 43-year old man present ed with a 6 mo nth hist- ory of sneezing a nd rhinorrhea related to exposure to western red cedar dust. The nasal mucosa showed erythematous swelling and other findings were within norma l limits. Tot al eosinophil count w as 242/mm. IgE(PRIST) was over 1, 000IU/ml. Allergic skin test was negat- ive with routine allergens of inhalants and foods. However, skin test by cedar extracts which were made with ph enol-saline, was positive. Nas al prov- ocation test by ced ar extract showed markedly increas m l rhinorrhea. Sneezing and nas al obstruction were noted.
