In recent audiovisual media, the boundary between music and sound has become increasingly fluid. This study focuses on the integration of ambient music and sound design in Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival. Drawing on Brian Eno’s ambient music theory and relevant sound studies, it analyzes the collaboration between composer Jóhann Jóhannsson and sound designer Sylvain Bellemare. The study explores how asynchronous timing and frequency layering between music and sound design generate emotional depth, auditory tension, and enhanced realism. While maintaining distinct functions, these elements converge to create a unified soundscape that supports narrative immersion. The findings suggest that successful integration requires early collaboration, precise control of timing and frequency, and spatial design strategies to foster immersive auditory experiences.
