The present study attempted to develop and test the validity of, the early therapeutic-educational demonstration programs, so called, social skill programs for intervening of low-status, low-skilled preschool children.
This study was conducted through the following procedure : 1) developing a behavioral checklist of peer interaction, 2) selecting target behaviors and subjects, 3) developing demonstration programs, 4) program performance and effect measurement, 5) data analysis.
The target behaviors of checklist consisted of the four social processes usually taught to the low-staus children in a preschool settings ; communication clarity, positive reciprocity, establishing common activity, intimacy. The subjects were 36 low-skilled preschool children with the age of 5 to 6 years.
The important theories used in developing the programs were Mize & Ladd's(1990a) 'A Cognitive-Social Learning Model of Social Skill Training' ; Price & Dodge'(1989) 'Reciprocal influences in peer transactions involving socially rejected childrenJ. And Damon & Phelps's(1989) 'Strategic of Peer Learning'.
The results proved that the early therapeutic programs(SSP) developed on the basis of the strategic of peer learning that is, peer tutoring and cooperative learning were effective in enhancing the sociability of low-status, low-skilled preschool children.
