The knowledge-based society that has come on the back of Internet and information technology development has brought on the change in business as well as in education greatly. E-learning, an alternative for existing face to face teaching & leaning environment through Internet promoting and supporting the teachers and students especially, helping the students to conduct self-directed study is rapidly spreading.
Studies on e-learning have been conducted mainly aiming at virtual universities which grant degrees through online or web-based educational institutions, while the studies on e-learning at general universities, the core institutions of national higher education are slight level
Hereupon, this study has drawn out the factors affecting e-learning for the e-learning lectures conducted in general universities, and then analyzed empirically the direct, indirect effect of the factors on e-learning performance and intention to reuse it. In addition, analyzed their effect on learning performance and intention to reuse it depending on students' sex, grade, major, course & completed course.
This researcher defined the e-learning traits through seeking into literature and then identified 3 factors theoretically such as e-learning component(contents factor, technology factor, interaction factor, operation & management factors), learners' traits(motivations to study, self- regulation ability, experiences and ability), teachers' traits (lecturing methods and affirmative attitude) as the traits affecting e-learning performance and intention to reuse it. With that, based on the findings from the previous studies, deduced study model & hypothesis of the relation between the three factors and learning performance and intention to reuse it and then conducted empirical analysis for the university students who have ever taken e-learning lecture
Below are the summarized study results between e-learning components, learners' traits, teachers' traits and learning performance and intention to reuse.
First, content factor, interaction factor, learners' motivation to learn, experience and ability, teachers' lecturing methods and affirmative attitude among the e-learning components appeared to affect learning performance, and among them, 'motivation to learn' was most influential. So, the preferential consideration of learners' 'motivation to learn' seems to be necessary to raise the efficacy of e-learning at university. In particular, there should be a strategy to set the students to concentrate on their study considering their saying that they can't concentrate well whill studying by help of e-learning lecture.
Second, in the analysis on the effect on intention to reuse, content factor and interaction factor among e-learning components, motivation to learn, self -regulation ability, experience & ability, teachers' teaching method & affirmative attitude among students' traits appeared to be positively influential. Learners seem to have chosen e-learning following their motivation & experiences rather than by considering experimental factors.
Third, learning performance appeared to do an intermediary role in the relation of contents factor, technology factor, operation & management factors, motivation to learn, self-regulation ability, experience and ability, lecturing methods, affirmative attitude and intention to reuse. This results agree with that of previous studies, and so it's predictable that the students who ever satisfied with their e-learning performance would reuse it.
Lastly, in the difference in the factor affecting learning performance and intention to reuse it depending on the learners' sex, grade, major, course and completed course appeared to be affected by the traits of the subject they take more then by their traits of demographics.
Thus, the traits of subjects should preferentially considered at the time of designing e-learning class at university from now on.
