칸트의 민주주의 비판에 관한 연구 = A Study on Kant’s Critique of Democracy

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 <과연 칸트에게도 정치철학이라는 독자적이고 체계적인 영역이 존재하는지, 또 존재한다면 그 본질은 과연 어디에 있는지 등을 밝혀보려는 계획>의 도정에서 두 번째로 쓰인 논문이다. 본 연구를 통하여 연구자는 칸트가 남긴 주요 저작들을 재해석하는 과정에서 무엇보다 칸트의 민주주의 비판에 주목하고 그가 민주주의를 무엇으로 이해하였으며 나아가 그가 어떤 이유로 인하여 자신이 이해한 민주주의를 그토록 비판하였는지를 구명하고자 시도한다. 칸트가 이해한 민주주의는 직접민주주의로서, 그것은 칸트가 자신의 정치철학을 통해 궁극적으로 추구하는 바“일반의지에 의한 자기입법 이념의 실현을 통한 자유의 확보”에 전적으로 배치되는 정치질서를 의미한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper reveals what Immanuel Kant understands with democracy and also why he criticizes it.
According to Kant democracy in his original meaning is always a direct democracy, which demands
vainly not only all participate in decision-making but all are free through being connected by a common
decision. But the reality reveals democracy as such inevitably fails. This paper tries to reveal why.
